In My Mailbox is a weekly meme where you get to show off all the cool books you receive! This meme was inspired by Alea and memefied by Kristi.
From the library:
All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.
John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge -- and over....
This book looks sooooooo good. Same scenario with Shiver: why didn't I pick this up sooner?
From a super awesome book fairy (SQUEE):
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
I doubt I need to tell anyone how EXTREMELY ECSTATIC I was to get Paranormalcy in the mail. :D! IT'S SO GORGEOUS IN PERSON ♥
By the way: I'm not including my BEA/TAC stuff in this IMM post. I'm dedicating a post for each event... although I could just combine the two. Give me your opinion in the comments (and the links to your IMM posts so I can drop by!) :)
So every inch of my body is screaming at me to go lie down and NOT MOVE for the next twenty years....
but I wanted to update my little neglected blog. I just came back from BEA (yes, book expo of freakin' america) and it was....incredible. Simply incredible. I met a bunch of bloggers (TASCHIMA! Finally I know what you look like! And vice versa!) that I knew and some that I didn't but now will be following :D
And the books. Ohhhh, the books. I'll talk more about that later....along with the Teen Author Carnival which I attended on Monday. It was awesome :)
Now I'm going to rest my screaming muscles-they really hurt from carrying so many books.
Hello my lovely followers! I hope you had a great weekend filled with many IMM goodies. I haven't received all of my contest wins so I'm not going to put up an IMM post for this week. I'm too preoccupied with other things.... like this:
As BEA's going to start VERY soon, I'm feeling a mixture of emotions.
I'm
nervous,
hopeful,
extremely curious,
and a little worried.
But mostly I'm exhilarated.
I honestly cannot wait for BEA 2010! There are so many events that are going on and I wish I could clone myself just so I don't miss anything! I'm making my scheduele so I know exactly where to go; I'm also excited to meet the bloggers attending: I get to see the people behind the words I read daily. If you're not attending BEA this year, perhaps you'd be interested in checking out Armchair BEA Central?
Also... today I spent most of the day with an old friend watching movies. Our theme was originally romantic movies but it inadverdently became Jane Austen-themed. She never watched Pride & Prejudice (don't worry fellow Austenites, I fixed that problem!) and I never watched Becoming Jane (I know.... shameful.)
Anne Hathaway made a good Jane Austen. I was pleasantly surprised.
"You have bewitched me, body and soul. " Ah, Mr. Darcy. ♥
When she was thirteen, something terrifying and mysterious happened to Liv that she still does not understand, and now, four years later, her dark secret threatens to tear her apart from her family and her true love.Release Date: October 1st, 2010
Not very informative but I really like this cover! I'm excited since it's by Francesca Lia Block who happens to be one of my favorite authors. Her Weetzie Bat series is amazing ♥
There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four-year old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. With her life about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon.
But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people—suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug. Release Date: July 20th, 2010
Forget You has been getting wonderful reviews and I'm super curious about this author's writing style. I've ordered her other novel, Going Too Far, from the library two days ago so... I'll finally make myself familiar with her. :)
Jane by April Linder (no cover currently)
Forced to drop out of an esteemed East Coast college after the sudden death of her parents, Jane Moore takes a nanny job at Thornfield Park, the estate of Nico Rathburn, a world-famous rock star on the brink of a huge comeback. Practical and independent, Jane reluctantly becomes entranced by her magnetic and brooding employer and finds herself in the midst of a forbidden romance.
But there's a mystery at Thornfield, and Jane's much-envied relationship with Nico is soon tested by an agonizing secret from his past. Torn between her feelings for Nico and his fateful secret, Jane must decide: Does being true to herself mean giving up on true love?
An irresistible romance interwoven with a darkly engrossing mystery, this contemporary retelling of the beloved classic Jane Eyre promises to enchant a new generation of readers. Release Date: October 11, 2010
Sadly there's no cover for this one....but the summary's appealing all on its own! I'm a huge fan of Jane Eyre so I'm looking forward to a modern remake. I love Pride & Prejudice but it gets all the attention, haha. I tried searching for this one on goodreads but no dice. It IS however on Amazon (which means it's legit, lol.) Thanks to Melanie for telling me about this novel!
Okay, so I can't help myself. I HAVE to mention this since tweeting about it like the fangirlly nut that I am isn't enough for me. This is part of Shakira's new project and the song is SO catchy. I hope you watch it, it's for a good cause! ;)
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
This week's teaser is from Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, pg 74:
"Are you sleeping? Sam's voice was barely a whisper, but in the dark room where he didn't belong, it was like a shout. I rolled in my bed where he lay on the floor, a dark bundle curled in a nest of blankets and pillows. His presence, so strange and wonderful, seemed to fill the room and press against me. I didn't think I'd ever sleep again. "No."
"Can I ask you a question?"
"You already have."
He paused, considering. "Can I ask you two questions, then?"
"You already have."
Sam groaned and threw the one of the small soda pillows in my direction. It arced through the moonlight room, a blackened projectile, and thumped harmlessly by my head. "So you're a smartass, then."
I grinned in the darkness. "Okay, I'll play. What do you want to know?"
I'm almost done with Shiver and I keep asking myself, What took me so long to read this? It's just as good as everyone keeps saying it is! Thanks to the Z girls for pestering me to pick this up. I'm so grateful, haha! Thanks to you, I've fallen in love with Maggie's prose. (And Sam ♥)
